A House That Walks on Forty Shoulders — Epoche A1
My cousin moved house in the Philippines last Sunday, and the house moved with her. Her house is a nipa hut: bamboo and palm leaves, light and strong. So the neighbours came. They put long bamboo poles under the floor. Twenty people stood up together, and the house walked down the road on forty shoulders. It took twenty minutes. After that, my cousin cooked for everybody. Rice, fish, and a lot of noise. We call this bayanihan. Now it means any day when one street helps one family. Next time, my cousin will carry someone else's house. #bayanihan
