How to Fold a Rubbish Box from Newspaper In many Japanese kitchens a small paper box stands next to the chopping board. It takes vegetable peel and fish bones, and when it is full you fold the top over and throw the whole box away. It is called a kami no gomibako , a paper rubbish box. No glue, no scissors, and one newspaper makes four or five of them. What you need One double sheet of newspaper, about 55 cm by 40 cm A flat table Steps Open the double sheet and lay it flat on the table. Fold it in half, top edge down onto the bottom edge, and press the fold. Fold in half again, left to right, then open this second fold. Now there is a line down the middle. Fold the two top corners down to that middle line. The top is now a triangle. Fold the bottom edge up, over the ends of the corners. Turn the paper over and fold the other bottom edge up in the same way. Put your hand inside from the bottom and open the paper out. Push the two sides in. Press the bottom flat, so the box stands on the table by itself. Wet peel makes the paper soft in about a day, so use each box the same evening and fold a new one tomorrow.
