One Clock from Beijing to Kashgar — Epoche A1
6 January, Beijing Cold and clear. The sun came up at half past seven, and my hands hurt on the bicycle. 9 January, Xi'an A thousand kilometres west. Sunrise at eight. The clock did not change: China keeps one clock, Beijing time, from the east coast to the far west. 12 January, Kashgar Three thousand kilometres more. It is 8:40 on my phone and the sky is still black. The bread shop is shut. Here the sun comes up at ten. 13 January, Kashgar Breakfast at ten. Lunch at two. Dinner at nine, and I am hungry at seven. Same clock, and the day begins two hours later.
