Blue One Way, Orange the Other: Jeju's Olle Trails — Epoche A2
Day three on Jeju, and no map since Monday — mine is still at the guesthouse. 🥾 Here is the thing about the Olle trails. Numbered walking routes circle the whole island, and the trail itself tells you the way. You follow small painted arrows on stones, posts and walls, and pairs of ribbons tied to branches — always one blue, one orange. The two colours are not decoration. Every Olle route is walked in both directions. Blue arrows point the main way round; orange arrows point the reverse way. So an arrow that points against you is not wrong — it belongs to the walkers coming towards you. At the start of each route stands a small horse statue, the ganse, the trail's pony. Today was Route 7: sea cliffs, black rock, wind for two hours, one tangerine field after another. I lost the trail once near a harbour. Old habit said: open my phone. New habit said: stand still and turn slowly. There it was — the orange ribbon, waving from a fence. Twenty-odd routes go round the island. At this speed, see you in spring. 🍊 #Jeju #Olle #Route7
