The Padrinos on the Invitation — Epoche A2
Hola from Guadalajara! Yesterday I went to the quinceañera of my cousin Valeria — her fifteenth birthday, the big one. Church at five, then a hall with two hundred chairs, a live band, and a waltz that she practised for three months. The invitation taught me something. On the back there is a list of names: the padrinos . Each padrino paid for one part of the party, and the card says which part. The godmother of the dress. The godfather of the hall. The padrinos of the cake, of the music, of the photos. Valeria's parents did not carry the party alone — twelve people carried it together, and everyone at the tables could read who carried what. And it is not only about money. From yesterday, Valeria's parents will call those twelve people compadre and comadre , and they will use that name for life. Not friend, not aunt — its own word. My shoes did not survive the dancing. More next week! Un abrazo, Clara
