The Money Goes Round in a Nairobi Chama — Epoche A1
The Money Goes Round Six women on my floor in Umoja, in Nairobi, have a chama. A chama is a small money group. They meet on the last Sunday of the month, in one flat, with tea and mandazi. Everybody puts in two thousand shillings. Nobody puts in less. Then one woman takes all of it, twelve thousand, and next month it is another woman's turn. Last month Mama Wanjiru took the money and bought a fridge. In August it is the turn of the woman in 3C. She wants a new door.
