The Brass Studs on a Zanzibar Door — Epoche A1
Dear Amina, I am in Stone Town, in Zanzibar, and I am standing in front of an old door. It is brown and very big. Around it there is wood with flowers and small words cut into it. In the middle there are rows of round brass studs, like little suns. A man in the street told me the studs came with ships from India. There, they were spikes, and they stopped elephants. Here there are no elephants, so now they only say: this is an important family. The door tells you about the house. You know the people before you knock. Love, Juma
