This is the rule in the bakery, in the lift, in the waiting room, in the little shop on the corner. Enter the shop: "Bonjour." Then ask for the bread. No "Bonjour" first? The seller finds you rude, and the service turns cold. One "Bonjour" per person per day. Meet the same person again: smile, or say "Re-bonjour" as a small joke. After about six in the evening, the word changes to "Bonsoir". One word, said first. That is the whole rule.
