Mano Po, Not a Handshake — Epoche A1
Sunday lunch at Marisol's house in Quezon City. Her lola — her grandmother — sat by the window. The children came in one by one. Each child took Lola's right hand and pressed the back of it to their forehead. 'Mano po.' And Lola answered each one: 'God bless you.' I put out my hand for a handshake. Marisol smiled and showed me: here you do not shake an old person's hand. The young person asks for the hand, and the touch asks for the blessing. The old person gives it. That is the greeting. #Manila #manopo #Sunday
