Washing on Poles, Ten Floors Up — Epoche A1
MEMO To: Jenny, our new flatmate From: Wei Ling Date: 3 April About: Washing day This is an older HDB block, so the washing dries outside the kitchen window, on poles. Wring everything well. No dripping — people live under your washing, floor after floor. Push the pole through the sleeves. Peg the socks at the end. Lift the pole out and set its end in the holder on the wall. Two hands! Rain comes fast in the afternoon. Bring the clothes in before you go out. From the bus stop the block looks like flags — ten floors of shirts in the sky. Yours will be there on Monday.
